On Tuesday and Wednesday, May 14 -15, the Association for Manufacturing Excellence (AME) is sponsoring an event for human resources professionals. The “AME Champions for HR Excellence” program allows participants to see first-hand how three manufacturers have successfully applied lean methodologies to their human resources departments and overall business cultures.
Participants will spend the two days visiting three St. Louis-based manufacturers including Cambridge Engineering, Watlow and Barry-Wehmiller. They will spend time at Watlow on Tuesday afternoon, and have lunch and a question and answer session with Sheryl Hicks, vice president of human resources. Hicks will speak to the group about the culture of an organization by defining what it is and describing why it is important. She will also describe how Watlow has developed and implemented “The Watlow Way,” which has driven a culture based on what people can do to create their own vision of the future.
“I am honored that I will be able to speak to a group of my colleagues about the successes we have experienced at Watlow,” said Hicks. “The Watlow Way guides team members in all areas of our company to do the right things, always learn and improve, respect everyone and lead with service and humility. These values have fueled our growth and will take us into the future.”
